Despite its compact dimensions, it is has good performance and is attractive to all levels of model plane flyers, from beginners to experts. The tail unit has been improved over the glider version and the F5K version is now superior, with improved damping and directional control.
Except for the tail boom, the Spinthing Electric is made entirely of wood and is therefore easy to repair if the worst comes to the worst. The front of the wing is solid balsa and the rear is of built-up construction. A sanding aid is included to help achieve the correct wing profile. With this tool the wing surface can be shaped very easily and quickly.
Construction is built-up balsa, ply and carbon fibre with Oralight or Feather
Cover covering.
Manufacturer’s recommended powertrain: Hacker A10 or Pichler Pulsar Micro 1510/1650, a 7×4-8×5 prop, 2S 300-600 LiPo, 15A ESC, 2 small servos and a small receiver. The performance in powered flight is more than sufficient.
Although designed to use a 30mm spinner the nose could be extended with a little balsa block and our Lightweight Electric Glider Powerset (with a 25mm spinner) could be used instead. This will be lighter and should keep the weight below 250g.
